Youth happenings for the New Year

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

God is at work in the next generation, and we aim to communicate well how all can join in. For one, check out the new willamettestudents.com. There you’ll find two sites, one for the junior high students, and one for high schoolers.

Also, students and parents can signup to receive regular email updates.

You will notice the high schoolers have a few dynamic things happening:

  • This Friday night (1/2) is an After New Years movie night. Vote for what we’ll watch here. (No cost.)
  • Then next Weds, 1/7 we kickoff a new series: INSPIRED. We will be contemplating lives totally sold-out for Jesus and used by Him in amazing ways, starting with a look at Jim Elliot next Wednesday night.
  • In less than three weeks the planned Snow Day will be upon us. (As if we didn’t already have enough snow the last few weeks? No, we didn’t!) That Monday off from school provides a great opportunity to hit the slopes of Mt. Hood Meadows, taking a bus ride together. Web signups too.
  • All these events and more are on the HS Calendar

The junior high students are also revvin’ up for the New Year. Here’s what’s upcoming:

  • This Sunday, Jan. 4th from 12:30-4:30 will be our first “Super Sunday” of ‘09, with games and gaming, pizza and probably a movie too. Fun times at the tenthstreetchurch lounge. Bring your friends.
  • The big event of the winter is the Winter Retreat at Great Wolf Lodge water resort. It will be Sunday-Monday, Jan. 18-19, the tail end of a three day weekend. The cost is set at only $80 for our middle schoolers, intended to be a fantastic time together in the water and diving into God’s Word as well.
  • All these events and more are on the MS Calendar

See you next year!

You can always reach the youth ministries at students@willamettechurch.com. And be sure to signup for the student ministries email updates.

Christmas Eve Services Location Change

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Dear Church Family,
What a beautiful winter wonderland we’re experiencing, but we pray that you and your families are experiencing it safely, enfolded in His Grace and Love.  As the snow continues, God has shown that his plans for Christmas Eve are different than ours.  The school district shared with us this morning that they are unable to clear the parking lot and grounds at West Linn High School, leaving the high school unsafe to use for our services.

As of 11am today, we are moving tomorrow’s Christmas Eve services to tenthstreetchurch.  We will still have a service at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to celebrate the coming of the Christ Child - our Savior.  We urge each of you to decide whether you can safely come to church and return home.  We fully intend to hold both Christmas Eve services and, Lord willing, we will celebrate together.  However, there are some circumstances where we would cancel services at tenthstreetchurch:
•    If the parking lot is completely unsafe for vehicles or people and we cannot clear it as planned
•    If the power to tenthstreetchurch is off.

If services are canceled for one of these reason, we will notify everyone as quickly as possible through the website and emails, and update the church voicemail.
As we shared yesterday, we rely heavily on giving during the month of December to meet our general fund and building fund goals. We look to you, our faithful church family during this time, and want to remind everyone that we are fully equipped to receive contributions online, even if we are unable to hold services. You may click HERE to go directly to the online contribution page.  We thank you for love and support to our church and this community and we serve with you, trusting His plans for us in uncertain times.

We hope to see you tomorrow at either 3 p.m. or 5 p.m. for Christmas Eve service at tenthstreetchurch.

Blessings,
The WCC Staff

Christmas Eve Service Update

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

We are planning for and looking forward to celebrating with you all on Christmas Eve at one of two services at West Linn High School. We will have a service at 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - designed to celebrate the coming of the Christ Child - our Savior.

In the event that the district cancels the use of schools for Wednesday, we will move our services to tenthstreetchurch, and keep them at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. We will notify everyone through the website and emails, and update the voice mail at the church.

Weekend Service Announcement

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

Dear Church Family,
It is our deepest desire that we have a chance to worship together with you this weekend.  Unfortunately, the weather continues to worsen and is creating unsafe driving conditions, especially in light of the set up and tear down situations we have at Rosemont Ridge Middle School.   We have been watching the weather hour by hour, and based on what appears to be pretty accurate forecasts, it is predicted that weather will worsen this evening around the time of our Saturday night service, and through the early hours of Sunday morning.  Given this, we are making the following changes:  We are holding ONE service only this weekend on Sunday, December 21, at 10:00 a.m. at tenthstreet church.  We invite everyone who can safely attend to please join us at this service.

Please note the cancelled activities below:
Saturday, December 20:

  • 2:00 p.m. Baptism service cancelled
  • 6:00 p.m. Worship service cancelled
  • 7:30 p.m. Baptism service cancelled

Sunday, December 21

  • 9:00 a.m. at Rosemont Ridge Middle School cancelled
  • 10:45 a.m. at Rosemont Ridge Middle School cancelled

We pray that you and your families will be safe, will be enfolded in His Grace and Love this weekend, and that you will enjoy this prelude to celebrating His Birth.  We hope to see you at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday morning at tenthstreetchurch.  **And, don’t forget, Wednesday’s Christmas Eve Services are on at 3 and 5 p.m. at West Linn High School.

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Merry Christmas everyone! We wanted to remind you of our special service schedule this weekend:  Along with our normal 6pm Saturday service at tenthstreetchurch and our 9am and 10:45am services at Rosemont Ridge Sunday morning, we will be adding a special “10 @ tenth” service, at 10:00am Sunday morning, December 21 at our tenthstreetchurch building.  Being the last weekend before Christmas, we are expecting a larger-than-usual crowd.  So if it works for you, come on over to our 10:00am service!

Meetings Cancelled Due to Inclement Weather

Monday, December 15th, 2008

Due to the inclement weather, we have cancelled today’s (12/16) 7pm Transition Team Meeting at the new church site.  We will reschedule this meeting for after the holidays, and will notify everyone of the new date and time soon.  We have also rescheduled tonight’s Financial Peace classes at tenthstreetchurch for next Monday/Tuesday at 7pm.  Thank you for your support and understanding.
