WCC Security Update – 11/12/09
Recently, there was a string of car break-ins in West Linn that prompted your Security Ministry to remind you all to take extra precautions making sure your vehicles are locked and all valuables stored out of sight.
We do make routine passes through the parking lot during services to deter anyone who might be prowling the parking lot during services looking for an easy target(s). In the past, we have often observed many items in plain view such as: cameras, purses, wallets, cell phones, GPS devices, unpaid bills in envelopes, credit cards, iPods and a variety of other valuables we seem to forget about. It takes only a few seconds to break a window and be gone before anyone can reach your vehicle. Even if nothing is taken, the cost and inconvenience of repairing your window is something we don’t want to see happen.
With our tough economic times, along with entering the holiday season, we could possibly see an increase in car prowls and thefts from vehicles. So please, take the extra time to look around the inside of your vehicle before coming into services to make sure nothing could be seen as tempting by an unwanted passerby.
From time to time, we have noticed that some purses have been left unattended under the chairs in the sanctuary while visiting with other WCC folks. Even though you may be a short distance from where you were sitting, a wallet in plain sight can disappear in the blink of an eye. We would be happy to watch over your purses at the front desk, where one of us is always sitting.
We would like to reach out to anyone within our church family who is experiencing similarly difficult domestic times as the estranged husband and wife involved in the sad event that occurred in Tualatin this past Tuesday. Please know that we are here for your protection and safety, so you can worship without fear. If you have concerns about your safety because of a broken relationship you can, with complete confidentiality, contact Chris Yarco, Dan Costelloe or Bruce Hanson. We want to ensure that you have a safe place to come to worship our Lord.
The Security Ministry is in need of some additional people so we can all attend services with our families from time to time. If you are wondering what ministry would fit for you, especially if you have current or previous law enforcement experience, fireman/EMTs, medical or just feel this is the perfect place for you, we welcome your help. This is not an every weekend requirement, but we would like to have enough folks that we can rotate weekends for everyone in the ministry. Having a couple of willing ladies on the team would be of great help too! If you would like to learn more about what our role is in the church, contact: Chris Yarco, Dan Costelloe or Bruce Hanson. (No donuts provided, though!)
As always, the WCC Security Ministry takes great pleasure in serving God’s works to provide a safe environment for everyone wishing to share in our Lord’s love for one another.
God Bless,
The Security Ministry
